Vinkeveen, Sailing Lessons in the Summer

This painting was created in the summer on the Vinkeveenseplassen lakes. Every year, hundreds of young people enroll in the many sailing camps. They have the best time of their lives in the beautiful surroundings of Vinkeveen. The colorful sails create a festive scene. Vinkeveen at its best.

Metal Head

Titel:Metal Head
Technique: Mixed Media Acrylic on canvas
Size: 20 x 50 cm
Artist: Bas van Duyvenbode
Price: € 150,-

The surrealistic “metal” skull on the “pouring” background creates depth. The use of skulls has always appealed to me. I think this stems from the way many people view this art form with aversion. I love it when I see people looking shocked at my images here. Often, it’s been a facade for me to avoid revealing my inner self. Oh, and yes, it’s a great topic to start a conversation if it hangs in your workspace.

Ballet Amsterdam "The pain of getting to the middle of the lake..."

Titel:Ballet Amsterdam”The pain of getting to the middle of the lake…”
Technique: Mixed Media Acrylic on canvas
Size: 50 x 70 cm
Artist: Bas van Duyvenbode
Price: € 590,-

This canvas is number two of a series of three canvases. “Here I am” Black swan of the lake, is the first i painted. Ballet Amsterdam “The pain of getting to the middle of the lake…” is the second i painted.

The realization of my vision. I lived in Amsterdam when I was about 9 years old and often stood with my red bicycle at the ballet school behind our house. Now we had a wealthy artists’ residence in our street. Often the notes from a violin or a trumpet flew by. So the fact that a ballet school was located behind our street is actually quite normal.

The sounds of the piano and the teacher counting the rhythm came through the windows as they practiced. One day there was a girl who was dragged inside by her mother, crying heavily… Oh well, now I say she may have lost her marbles that’s why she was crying. At the time, however, it made a deep impression. Little foot in pointe shoes…I won’t forget them…or the tears she swallowed as she took her first steps that morning. Sure steps for a little girl…. That already took an hour of training.

This painting tells the powerful story of an encounter with the majestic whales of the Dominican Republic. A country full of contrasts: breathtaking nature and richness, but also pollution and threats.

The gigantic whale rising from the water beside you—larger than an apartment building—makes you aware of your own smallness and the grandeur of nature. In the work, you see not only the beauty, but also the dark side: the threat of plastic waste drifting through the ocean, the red glow of whaling, and the tear rolling down the whale’s cheek. It begs the question: will it still be there next year?

A work of art that not only enriches your interior but also moves and inspires reflection. Perfect for art lovers who appreciate works with a deeper meaning and a strong emotional story.

Ballet Amsterdam "Black Swan."

Titel: Ballet Amsrterdam “Black Swan”
Technique: Mixed Media Acrylic on canvas
Size: 100 x 150 cm
Artist: Bas van Duyvenbode
Price: not available

The technical side. Mixed media on canvas, I used the blackest black: BLACK 3.0 by Stuart Sample. In combination with the airbrush, this paint has the effect of manifesting itself as a layer of velor that absorbs all light.

This canvas is one of a series of three canvases. “Here I am” Black swan of the lake, is the first. The full conviction of the prima ballerina

The realization of my vision. Ballet and Swan Lake are one. During my stay in Vinkeveen we were often surprised with a visit from some black swans that lived there. Black swans were not a common sight seen every day in the Netherlands. So these stately animals are always a delight to see. They always remind me of the prima ballerina. I then think of the hours of training they have to endure to be able to dance as beautifully as they do. For me, the black swan and the prima ballerina are the symbol of perseverance and of showing that you are there. Tough and brave, sure of yourself and your environment.
